Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis: Case report in a canine

Resumen

La laxitud pasiva de la articulación de la cadera y la subluxación subyacente es el principal factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de la osteoartritis, siendo los signos primarios de la displasia de cadera en caninos. Por ello, se debe realizar un diagnóstico precoz y un tratamiento quirúrgico que prevenga a futuro la enfermedad articular. Al diagnosticar la laxitud coxofemoral de manera temprana en cachorros de menos de 20 semanas de edad, se puede tomar una medida preventiva/terapéutica que permitirá reducir la prevalencia de la enfermedad. El presente reporte de caso describe el diagnóstico y tratamiento de un canino macho de raza husky siberiano, de 12 semanas de edad, que llegó a consulta al Centro Clínico Veterinario de la Universidad de los Llanos con signos clínicos de claudicación en miembro posterior derecho. En el examen ortopédico se observó laxitud pasiva de la articulación coxofemoral y de la articulación del tarso de ambos miembros. Se realizó un estudio radiográfico de la articulación de la cadera y del tarso, donde se evidenció laxitud bilateral e incongruencia articular de la cadera y laxitud articular en las articulaciones intertarsianas proximales y distales de forma bilateral. Se realizó como tratamiento quirúrgico la sinfisiodesis púbica juvenil, técnica menos invasiva comparada con otras osteotomías pélvicas y con un posoperatorio menos complejo. A pesar de que requiere un diagnóstico precoz, se ha demostrado disminución de la progresión de la displasia, la reducción del dolor y disminución en la medicación durante largos periodos.
