This study examines sociodemographic conditions and family organization with attention to housing, health, roles, norms, caregiving, and responses to crisis. Objectives: To analyze the sociodemographic environment and map the diversity of family organizational forms in urban Villavicencio (Meta). Materials and methods: Using a qualitative design informed by Grounded Theory, we employed theoretical sampling and collected data through sociodemographic/ cultural profile surveys and semi structured interviews. Data were processed with office software. Results: Across categories—family finances, housing conditions, traditions, and internal organization—households reported pressures linked to labor insecurity, informality, role reconfiguration, and shifting social norms. Concurrently, families articulated adaptation strategies that reflect resilience, renegotiating values and everyday practices amid change and vulnerability. Conclusion: Social determinants substantially shape living conditions. Family organization is heterogeneous and adaptive, with structures, roles, and practices aligning to local socio-economic contexts; these organizational patterns, in turn, condition intra-family dynamics.
Catalina Santos-González Nasly Daniela Gutiérrez-Aguas Claudia Maria Pinzón-Gutiérrez Emilce Salamanca-Ramos Copyright (c) 2026 Catalina Santos-González , Nasly Daniela Gutiérrez-Aguas, Claudia Maria Pinzón-Gutiérrez, Emilce Salamanca-Ramos https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-01-19 2026-01-19 8 1 1360 10.22579/27448592.1360 Coping with Cancer in Children and Adolescents: Description of Strategies in the Colombian Context https://revistas.unillanos.edu.co/index.php/bsif/article/view/1326
Background: Children and adolescents living with cancer employ diverse cognitive and behavioral strategies to manage stressors. Characterizing these strategies can inform nursing interventions tailored to patients’ developmental needs and sociocultural context. Objective: To describe the frequency and perceived effectiveness of coping strategies among 8–15-year-old patients with cancer in Bogotá. Materials and Methods: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study using convenience sampling at a healthcare institution in Bogotá. Coping was assessed with the Schoolagers’ Coping Strategies Inventory (SCSI). Data were managed in Excel and analyzed in R. Results: Frequently reported strategies included nail-biting, withdrawing, seeking a safe place, playing, praying, and communicating with parents. Strategies most often rated as effective were communicating with parents, hugging, relaxation,M play and other enjoyable activities, problem-solving, distraction (thinking about something else), and telling the truth. Conclusion: Coping strategies are widely used by pediatric oncology patients. Nursing care should systematically identify these patterns and incorporate developmentally appropriate, family centered approaches that reinforce effective strategies within the plan of care.
Karol Johanna Briñez-Ariza Maria Elizabeth Gómez-Neva Sandra Patricia Pacheco-Berdugo Leidy Johana Ibañez-Rodriguez Juan Camilo Lugo-Cárdenas Jose Felipe Medina Copyright (c) 2026 Karol Johanna Briñez-Ariza, Maria Elizabeth Gómez-Neva, Sandra Patricia Pacheco-Berdugo, Leidy Johana Ibañez-Rodriguez, Juan Camilo Lugo-Cárdenas, Jose Felipe Medina https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-01-19 2026-01-19 8 1 1326 10.22579/27448592.1326 Perception of Patients with Hypertension, Diabetes, or both Regarding Nursing Education upon Hospital Discharge https://revistas.unillanos.edu.co/index.php/bsif/article/view/1332
Introduction: Inadequate discharge education among older adults contributes to preventable complications, unplanned returns to care, and diminished quality of life. Targeted health education is essential to support self-management after hospitalization. Objective: To describe patients’ perceptions of the education provided by nursing staff at discharge among individuals with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or both. Materials and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using convenience sampling of 60 hospitalized patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or both. Perceptions of discharge teaching were assessed with the Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale (QDTS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate comparisons. Results: Of the 60 participants, 43.3% were aged 70–79 years, 58.3% were women, and 46.7% had hypertension. The mean global QDTS score was 6.2 (SD 1.6), reflecting a low perceived quality of discharge education. Conclusion: Strengthening structured educational practices and interdepartmental coordination is warranted to ensure that patients receive effective guidance for post-discharge self-care.
Gloria Isabel Gallego-Ríos Marjorie Pérez-Villa Copyright (c) 2026 Gloria Isabel Gallego-Ríos, Marjorie Pérez-Villa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-01-19 2026-01-19 8 1 1332 10.22579/27448592.1332
